ABSTRACT

El uso de nuevos recursos tecnológicos en la enseñanza de anatomía ha impulsado la necesidad de adaptar el modelo educativo haciéndolo más centrado en el estudiante, dinámico y participativo mediante herramientas digitales y 3D; orientando los conocimientos hacia su aplicación clínica, pero bajo un ajuste curricular que tiende a cursar menos horas presenciales en aula o laboratorio. Este trabajo describe la experiencia local de una nueva Escuela de Medicina en Chile, reportada el año 2018, además y otros trabajos de centros formadores presentados en el "SECTRA Users Meeting 2019 Estocolmo", Karolinska Institutet, Suecia. Este trabajo describe los reportes orales sobre la aplicación de nuevos recursos digitales como; la mesa de disección digital táctil SECTRA® y modelos anatómicos cadavéricos impresos en 3D Erler-Zimmer®, bases de datos sobre anatomía digital, además, su impacto en el desempeño académico, reportado por usuarios de diferentes países, tales como: Australia, Canadá, Chile, China, Colombia, Estados Unidos de Norteamérica (EUA) y Suecia. Los datos fueron recopilados y analizados a partir de la información reportada en las presentaciones orales y resúmenes entregados por los expositores. La gran mayoría de los países expositores declararon el uso combinado de recursos digitales y 3D sumados a los tradicionales para la enseñanza de anatomía. Sólo el representante de EUA declaró usar exclusivamente recursos digitales (en laboratorio y en línea), experiencia correspondiente a una joven e innovadora escuela de medicina. La mayoría de los centros docentes declaró utilizar la mesa de disección digital en una amplia proporción de sus contenidos curriculares, en asociación a plataformas tipo RIS/PACS como IDS7 portal de SECTRA o las utilizadas por el centro formador. El uso de nuevas tecnologías digitales y 3D ha ganado un importante espacio en el currículum de la enseñanza de anatomía, complementando el uso de los recursos tradicionales.


SUMMARY: The use of new technological resources in the teaching of anatomy has promoted the need to adapt the educational model, making it more student-centered, dynamic, and participatory through digital and 3D tools, directing the knowledge towards its clinical application, but under a curricular adjustment that tends to take fewer contact hours in the classroom or laboratory. This work describes the local experience of a new School of Medicine in Chile, reported in 2018, and other work from training centers presented at the "SECTRA Users Meeting 2019 Stockholm", Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. This work describes the oral reports on the application of new digital resources such as; the SECTRA® digital tactile dissection table and Erler- Zimmer® 3D printed cadaveric anatomical models, databases on digital anatomy, in addition, its impact on academic performance, reported by users from different countries, such as Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, United States of America (USA) and Sweden. The data was collected and analyzed from the information reported in the oral presentations and summaries delivered by the speakers.The vast majority of the exhibiting countries declared the combined use of digital and 3D resources added to the traditional ones for teaching anatomy. Only the representative from the USA stated that they exclusively used digital resources (in the laboratory and online), an experience corresponding to a young and innovative medical school. Most of the educational centers stated that they used the digital dissection table in a large proportion of their curricular contents, in association with RIS/PACS-type platforms such as the IDS7 SECTRA portal or those used by the training center. The use of new digital and 3D technologies has gained an important space in the anatomy teaching curriculum, complementing the use of traditional resources.

Introducción: La práctica investigativa corresponde a un ejercicio sistemático que conlleva el planteamiento propio y original de un problema de investigación contextuado, relevante disciplinar y socialmente, con soporte teórico y cuyo desarrollo se ajusta metodológicamente a la naturaleza del fenómeno en estudio. Se realizó una búsqueda de la práctica investigativa en revistas científicas de las bases de datos: Scielo, PubMed, Scopus, Redalyc y el repositorio de tesis doctorales de Infomed de los últimos 10 años, así como normativas vigentes para la educación superior en el curso 2022. Las palabras clave utilizadas fueron: educación, investigación, docencia universitaria, educación médica y sus equivalentes en inglés. Inicialmente fueron seleccionados 102 artículos. Luego se obtuvieron 34 artículos que cumplían los criterios de inclusión. Objetivo: Valorar las características de la práctica investigativa en docentes de las ciencias médicas en Cuba. Desarrollo: Se han vislumbrado deficiencias evidentes referentes a la producción científica de docentes; así como escasas acciones que favorezcan su incremento. Se reflejaron variables relacionadas de forma positiva con estas tareas, como el número de proyectos de investigación realizados y años trabajados en la universidad. Conclusiones: Se valoran insuficiencias en la práctica investigativa de docentes en el ámbito de las ciencias médicas en Cuba, así como factores involucrados a tener en cuenta para la elaboración e implementación de estrategias y modelos en el campo de las ciencias médicas que contribuyan a impulsar la investigación en los educadores, conforme a las exigencias del país.


Introduction: The investigative practice corresponds to a systematic exercise that entails the proper and original approach of a contextualized research problem, disciplinary and socially relevant, with theoretical support and whose development is methodologically adjusted to the nature of the phenomenon under study. A search of the investigative practice was carried out in scientific journals of the databases: Scielo, PubMed, Scopus, Redalyc and the Infomed doctoral theses repository of the last 10 years, as well as current regulations for higher education in the course 2022 The keywords used were: education, research, university teaching, medical education and their equivalents in English. Initially, 102 articles were selected. Then, 34 articles that met the inclusion criteria were obtained. Objective: To assess the characteristics of the investigative practice in teachers of medical sciences in Cuba. Development: Obvious deficiencies regarding the scientific production of teachers have been glimpsed; as well as a few actions that favor its increase. Variables positively related to these tasks were reflected, such as the number of research projects carried out and years worked at the university. Conclusions: Insufficiencies in the investigative practice of teachers in the field of medical sciences in Cuba are valued, as well as factors involved to take into account for the elaboration and implementation of strategies and models in the field of medical sciences that contribute to promote the research on educators, according to the demands of the country.

ABSTRACT

SUMMARY: It has been demonstrated that the teaching and learning process of human anatomy is influenced by different external factors that can affect, in the short and long term, the academic and professional performance of medical students. In this sense, the present work aims to determine the relationship between sociodemographic factors and the academic performance of students belonging to the program of Medicine and Surgery of the Universidad del Valle, in Cali-Colombia, who were enrolled in the course of Human Gross Anatomy. Based on the organization of the course plan, the average grades obtained by the students in the different exams taken in the course were compared. Through a survey, sociodemographic data that have been reported as influential factors in academic performance were asked. The first stage of the analysis consisted of identifying the characteristics of the variables, then the correlation of the sociodemographic variables with the students' academic performance, and finally, a multiple linear regression model was implemented. Although the results did not show statistically significant correlations between the variables analyzed, a close relationship was observed with the sex and place of origin of the students, obtaining that women and students from other towns and cities presented lower academic performance compared to their peers. This highlights the importance of including activities to strengthen the learning process, as well as guiding support programs to maintain academic performance and reduce the inequality gap.


Se ha demostrado que en el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje de la anatomía humana inciden diferentes factores externos que pueden afectar, a corto y largo plazo, el desempeño académico y profesional de los estudiantes de Medicina. En este sentido, el presente trabajo tiene como objetivo determinar la relación existente entre los factores sociodemográficos y el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes que pertenecen al programa de Medicina y Cirugía de la Universidad del Valle, en Cali-Colombia, matriculados en la asignatura de Anatomía Macroscópica Humana. A partir de la organización del plan del curso, se comparó el promedio de las notas obtenidas por los estudiantes en los diferentes exámenes realizados en la asignatura. A través de una encuesta, se preguntaron algunos datos sociodemográficos que han sido reportados como factores influyentes en el rendimiento académico. La primera etapa del análisis consistió en identificar las características de las variables, a continuación, la correlación de las variables sociodemográficas con el desempeño académico de los estudiantes y, finalmente, se implementó un modelo de regresión lineal múltiple. Si bien los resultados no arrojaron correlaciones estadísticamente significativas entre las variables analizadas, sí se observó una estrecha relación con el sexo y el lugar de procedencia de los estudiantes, obteniendo que las mujeres y los estudiantes foráneos presentaron menor rendimiento académico en comparación con los demás compañeros. Esto resalta la importancia de incluir actividades que permitan fortalecer el proceso de aprendizaje, así como guiar programas de apoyo para mantener el rendimiento académico y disminuir la brecha de desigualdad.

ABSTRACT

La educación médica superior se enfrenta a un proceso de constantes transformaciones dada por los adelantos científico-técnicos que vienen sucediendo en el campo de la salud. Estos adelantos concluyen en un volumen gigantesco de información en forma de publicaciones científicas que reúnen información valiosa sobre nuevos avances, esquemas terapéuticos y otros elementos relacionados con la enfermedad. La academia y práctica de la medicina se orienta al uso de la medicina basada en evidencia, por lo que los docentes y estudiantes tendrán una preparación y formación con elevado rigor científico, según las exigencias del contexto médico actual. Sin embargo, uno de los mayores problemas a los que se enfrenta la docencia médica universitaria se relaciona directamente con el dominio del idioma inglés, ya que una parte importante de estos documentos se publica en ese idioma. La educación bilingüe, a pesar de estar incluida dentro del proceso docente educativo como uno de los requisitos a vencer por los estudiantes, continúa siendo un desafío para poder lograr una mayor actualización científica que resulte en una mejor preparación profesional. El objetivo de esta investigación es exponer la situación actual de la educación bilingüe en la educación médica superior y cuáles son las necesidades actuales en este sentido(AU)


Higher medical education faces a process of constant transformations given by the scientific-technical advances that have been taking place in the field of health. These advances conclude in a gigantic volume of information that is expressed in the form of scientific publications that gather valuable information on new advances, therapeutic schemes and other elements related to the disease. The academy and practice of medicine is oriented towards the use of Evidence-Based Medicine; Therefore, teachers and students will have preparation and training with a high level of scientific rigor, according to the demands of the current medical context. However, one of the biggest problems faced by university medical teaching is directly related to the command of the English language, since a significant part of these documents are published in English. Bilingual education, despite being included within the educational teaching process as one of the requirements to be met by students, is presented as a current need in order to achieve a greater scientific update that results in better professional preparation. The objective of this research is to expose the current situation of bilingual education in higher medical education and what are the current needs in this regard(AU)

ABSTRACT

Introducción: La consolidación de destrezas y habilidades en el dominio del idioma inglés constituye una de las prioridades en el perfil de graduado de los estudiantes de la carrera de Nutrición. Objetivo: Consolidar las destrezas y habilidades de los estudiantes de la carrera de Nutrición en el dominio del idioma inglés. Métodos: Se desarrolló una investigación aplicada, con diseño cuasiexperimental, enfoque mixto y alcance descriptivo. El universo estuvo compuesto por 151 estudiantes de la carrera de Nutrición de la Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo entre septiembre 2021 y marzo 2022; de los cuales 110 formaron parte de la muestra del estudio y a quienes se le aplicó una intervención educativa. La intervención estuvo orientada, en un primer momento, a identificar las falencias relacionadas con el dominio del idioma inglés; a partir de los resultados se trazó la estrategia y después de terminada la intervención se realizó una evaluación. Se empleó la prueba de McNemar para identificar cambios significativos en el nivel de destrezas y habilidades de los estudiantes. Resultados: Al inicio de la investigación se registraron bajos niveles de destreza en todas las habilidades del idioma inglés. Después de terminar la intervención se elevó considerablemente el dominio del idioma inglés en los estudiantes. Se evidenció una mejoría significativa en cuanto a la comprensión, habla, interpretación y escritura. Conclusiones: La intervención educativa aplicada mejoró el nivel de destreza de los estudiantes de la carrera de Nutrición con respecto a las habilidades relacionadas con el dominio del idioma inglés(AU)


Introduction: The consolidation of skills and abilities in the management of the English language constitutes one of the priorities in the graduate profile of the students of the nutrition career of the Higher Polytechnic School of Chimborazo. Objective: To consolidate the skills and abilities of the students of the nutrition career, in the management of the English language. Methods: an applied research was developed, with a quasi-experimental design, a mixed approach and a descriptive scope. The universe was made up of 151 students of the nutrition career of the Polytechnic Higher School of Chimborazo; of which 110 were part of the study sample and to whom an educational intervention was applied. The intervention was oriented, at first, to identify the shortcomings related to the use of the English language; from the results was plotted. After the intervention ended, an evaluation was carried out and the McNemar test was used to identify significant changes in the level of skills and abilities of the students. Results: At the beginning of the investigation, low skill levels were recorded in all English language skills. After finishing the intervention, the command of the English language in the students increased considerably. A significant improvement was evidenced in terms of comprehension, speaking, interpretation and writing. Conclusions: The educational intervention applied improved the skill level of the students of the nutrition career around the skills related to the command of the English language(AU)

ABSTRACT

O estudo tematiza uma possível forma de pensar, analisar e desenvolver a formação universitária em Educação Física em tempos de crises. O enfoque consiste em um ensaio teórico crítico-hermenêutico, tendo em vista a análise e a reflexão sobre os (des) caminhos históricos da Universidade e da Educação Física, em seu sentido reflexivo. Desdobra-se desse entendimento, uma forma especial de perceber a crise em que vivemos na atualidade, a partir da ampliação dos autoritarismos, do desemprego, da discriminação, da violência, e da destruição ambiental. Tem-se o entendimento de que um projeto de formação universitária em Educação Física, precisaria se ocupar em desenvolver novas formas de racionalidade, as quais estariam diametralmente ligadas com outras vias possíveis de se educar e viver corporalmente. Essas vias guardam vínculos com um projeto de democracia, que está sempre em processo e em reconstrução. Isso configura novos desafios em relação à docência universitária em Educação Física


The study thematizes a possible manner of thinking, analyzing and developing university formation in Physical Education in times of crisis. The approach consists of a critical-hermeneutic theoretical essay, which focuses on the analysis and reflection on the historical ups and downs of the University and Physical Education, in its reflexive sense. From this understanding, a special way of perceiving the crisis in which we live nowadays, based on the expansion of authoritarianism, unemployment, discrimination, violence, and environmental destruction, unfolds. It is understood that a university education project in Physical Education would need to engage in developing new forms of rationality, which would be diametrically linked to other possible ways of educating and living bodily. These ways are linked to a project of democracy, which is always in process and under reconstruction. This configures new challenges in relation to university teaching in Physical Education.


Este estudio tematiza una posible forma de pensar, analizar y desarrollar la formación universitaria en Educación Física en tiempos de crisis. El enfoque consiste en un ensayo teórico críticohermenéutico, considerando el análisis y la reflexión sobre los (des)caminos históricos de la Universidad y de la Educación Física, en su sentido reflexivo. Desde esa comprensión, se desdobla una forma especial de percibir la crisis que vivimos en la actualidad, a partir de la expansión de los autoritarismos, del desempleo, de la discriminación, de la violencia y de la destrucción ambiental. Se entiende que un proyecto de formación universitaria en Educación Física tendría que preocuparse por desarrollar nuevas formas de racionalidad, que estarían diametralmente ligadas a otras posibles formas de educarse y vivir corporalmente. Esas guardan vínculos con un proyecto de democracia, que siempre está en proceso y en reconstrucción. Esto plantea nuevos desafíos en relación a la docencia universitaria en Educación Física.

ABSTRACT

OBJETIVO. Diagnosticar el estado actual de la formación académica basado en tecnologías para el cuidado enfermero. MATERIAL Y METODO. La muestra conformada por 106 estudiantes, 9 docentes, entrevistas grupales de participación voluntaria y observación no participante de aulas virtuales. Los instrumentos validados por expertos nacionales e internacionales con una puntuación máxima en su calificación, la discusión relaciona al análisis de resultados y estos con otros estudios, fundamentada en el modelo pedagógico integral, didáctica tecnológica socioformativa constructivista y la fundamentación epistemológica en las bases teóricas de la ciencia de enfermería. RESULTADOS. Los resultados revelan en la Dimensión Pedagógica; que el 61,2 % de los estudiantes identifican la pedagogía tradicional combinada con la integral, el 77,7 % de docentes aseveran practicar la pedagogía Integral; socio-criticaconstructiva y humana, contrario al resultado de las aulas, donde muestra el modelo tradicional en un 66,7%. Respecto a la Dimensión Didáctica Tecnológica; el 47,2% de los estudiantes indican la presencia del pensamiento crítico reflexivo y el 88,9% de docentes aseveran lo mismo, sin embargo en aula virtual solo muestra un 33,3%, en cuanto a la Dimensión formación - enseñanza del Cuidado Enfermero; está enfocada al abordaje biológico de prioridad, tanto en conocimientos y habilidades técnico-procedimentales, finalmente la construcción del Ser enfermero, el 44,4% de los docentes no contemplan durante la formación las actitudes, ética, valores, empatía, trato humano.


OBJECTIVE. The objective was to diagnose the current state of academic training based on technologies for nursing care. MATERIAL AND METHOD. The sample made up of 106 students, 9 teachers, group interviews of voluntary participation and nonparticipant observation of virtual classrooms. The instruments validated by national and international experts with a maximum score in their qualification, the relational discussion to the analysis of results and these with other studies, based on the comprehensive pedagogical model, constructivist socioformative technological didactics and the epistemological foundation in the theoretical bases of nursing science. RESULTS. The results reveal in the Pedagogical Dimension; that 61.2% of students identify traditional pedagogy combined with comprehensive, 77.7% of teachers claim to practice comprehensive pedagogy; socio-critical-constructive and human, contrary to the result of the classrooms, where it shows the traditional model in 66.7%. Regarding the Technological Didactic Dimension; 47.2% of the students indicate the presence of reflective critical thinking and 88.9% of teachers assert the same, however in the virtual classroom it only shows 33.3%, in terms of the training dimension - teaching of Care Nurse; It is focused on the priority biological approach, both in knowledge and technical-procedural skills, finally the construction of the Nursing Being, 44.4% of teachers do not contemplate attitudes, ethics, values, empathy, human treatment during training.

ABSTRACT

Background:Certain life-threatening complications and morbidities may occur following consensual sexual intercourse which may not be commonly experienced in clinical practice. One of such complications is hypovolaemic shock resulting from profuse bleeding.AbstractMethods:Two cases of vaginal laceration complicated by hypovolaemic shock following consensual sexual intercourse are presented.Results:Both patients had resuscitation with intravenous fluid, blood transfusion and subsequent examination under anaesthesia with repair of laceration in theater. Post-operative recovery period was uneventful and they were both discharged after proper counselling. Conclusion:Bleeding from coital laceration could be life threatening. Prompt treatment should be instituted in such cases

ABSTRACT

O contexto da docência universitária é eivado de complexidade, independentemente da área e, neste sentido, urge ser investigado, especialmente sob o ponto de vista dos professores universitários, como no presente caso. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar e compreender a prática profissional de professores universitários de Educação Física. A partir da abordagem qualitativa, foram realizadas 11 entrevistas semiestruturadas com docentes de um curso de graduação em Educação Física de uma universidade pública, além da análise do Currículo Lattes dos mesmos. Foi possível concluir que os docentes estão satisfeitos com suas escolhas profissionais e buscam se organizar para cumprir as diversas atividades acadêmicas. Entretanto, problemas como elevada carga de trabalho, conflitos de relacionamentos, falta de infraestrutura adequada, dentre outros, geram dificuldades ao cotidiano da profissão e podem impactar a saúde do docente.


The context of university teaching is very complex, regardless of the area and, in this sense, it is urgent to be investigated, especially from the point of view of teachers, as in the present case. The aim of this study was to analyze and understand the professional practice of university professors of Physical Education. From the qualitative approach, 11 semi-structured interviews were conducted with professors from an undergraduate course in Physical Education at a public university, in addition to the analysis of their Lattes Curriculum. It was possible to conclude that the teachers are satisfied with their professional choices and seek to organize themselves in order to accomplish the academic activities. However, problems such as high workload, relationship conflicts, lack of adequate infrastructure, among others, generate difficulties in the profession's daily life and can impact the teacher's health.


El contexto de la enseñanza universitaria está lleno de complejidad, independientemente del área y, en este sentido, es urgente ser investigado, especialmente desde el punto de vista de los docentes, como en el presente caso. El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar y comprender la práctica profesional de los profesores universitarios de educación física. Desde el enfoque cualitativo, se realizaron 11 entrevistas semiestructuradas con profesores de un curso de pregrado en Educación Física en una universidad pública, además del análisis de currículo Lattes. Fue posible concluir que los maestros están satisfechos con sus elecciones profesionales y buscan organizarse para cumplir con las diversas actividades académicas. Sin embargo, problemas como el alta carga de trabajo, los conflictos de relación, la falta de infraestructura adecuada, entre otros, generan dificultades en la vida diaria de la profesión y pueden afectar la salud del maestro.

INTRODUCTION@#The survival of HIV/AIDS patients on antiretroviral therapy (ART) is determined by a number of factors, including economic, demographic, behavioral, and institutional factors. Understanding the survival time and its trend is crucial to developing policies that will result in changes. The aim of this study was to compare the survival estimates of different subgroups and look into the predictors of HIV/AIDS patient survival.@*METHODS@#A retrospective cohort study of HIV/AIDS patients receiving ART at the University of Gondar teaching hospital was carried out. To compare the survival of various groups, a Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was performed. The Cox proportional hazards model was used to identify factors influencing HIV/AIDS patient survival rates.@*RESULTS@#In the current study, 5.91% of the 354 HIV/AIDS patients under ART follow-up were uncensored or died. Age (HR = 1.051) and lack of formal education (HR = 5.032) were associated with lower survival rate, whereas family size of one to two (HR = 0.167), three to four (HR = 0.120), no alcoholic consumption (HR = 0.294), no smoking and chat use (HR = 0.101), baseline weight (HR = 0.920), current weight (HR = 0.928), baseline CD4 cell count (HR = 0.990), baseline hemoglobin (HR = 0.800), and no TB diseases were associated with longer survival rate.@*CONCLUSIONS@#Fewer deaths were reported in a study area due to high patient adherence, compared to previous similar studies. Age, educational status, family size, alcohol consumption, tobacco and chat usage, baseline and current weight, baseline CD4 cell count, baseline hemoglobin, and tuberculosis (TB) diseases were all significant predictors of survival of HIV/AIDS patients.

@#Introduction: Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) was declared a global pandemic in March 2020, with 15 million people have been infected worldwide, and this number is increasing. Our study sought to assess the knowledge and practice of healthcare workers (HCWs) in a teaching hospital in Malaysia. Methods: This cross-sectional study was undertaken using online Google form links among HCWs. Knowledge and practice were assessed using a validated questionnaire. The analysis was performed with SPSS version 26. Factors associated with poor knowledge were analysed using multivariate analysis. Results: A total of 193 HCW responded to our online survey. Majority of our HCWs were female (74.1%) with a mean age of 32.5 years. We found 53 (27.5%) and 134 (69.4%) of our HCWs had good knowledge and good practice on COVID-19, respectively. Knowledge gap was identified in the symptomatology, investigation methods and management. Based on multiple logistic regression, determinants of poor knowledge scores were those work as medical attendants (aOR = 3.626; 95% CI = 1.489, 8.834) and nurses (aOR = 4.107; 95% CI = 1.175, 14.358). Conclusion: Around one-third and 70% of our HCWs have good knowledge and practice of COVID-19 infection respectively. Continuous, specifically targeted and updated medical education, need to be carried out to improve the knowledge and practice among our HCWs in order to keep abreast of the fast-moving pace of COVID-19 knowledge development.

El objetivo de la enseñanza de Enfermedades Infecciosas en el Ciclo Clínico de la Carrera de Medicina de la Facultad de Medicina de la UBA es desarrollar los contenidos de la asignatura que le permitan al alumno adquirir las competencias, habilidades y destrezas necesarias para el ejercicio de la Atención Primaria de la Salud. Las guías didácticas constituyen un recurso del proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje que tienen el propósito de orientar metodológicamente al estudiante en su actividad independiente, al mismo tiempo que sirven de apoyo a la dinámica del proceso docente y orientan la actividad del alumno en su aprendizaje. Es el documento que orienta el estudio, acercando a los procesos cognitivos del alumno el material didáctico, con el fin de que pueda trabajarlos. Una guía de estudios en la signatura Enfermedades Infecciosas es una herramienta colaborativa en el cumplimiento de las metas propuestas.


The primary function of the teaching of Infectious Diseases in the Clinical Cycle of the Medical Career of the UBA School of Medicine is to develop the contents of the subject that allow the student to acquire the necessary skills, abilities and skills for the exercise of Primary Health Care. The didactic guides are a resource of the teaching-learning process that have the purpose of methodologically guiding the student in their independent activity, at the same time that they support the dynamics of the teaching process and guide the student's activity in their learning. It is the document which guides the study, bringing the teaching material closer to the cognitive processes of the student, so that he can work on them. A study guide in the Infectious Diseases subject is a collaborative tool in fulfilling the proposed goals.

ABSTRACT

Background: Neonatal jaundice is one of the major causes of neonatal morbidity and mortality in Nigeria. There is the need therefore to equip our young upcoming doctors about the disease. Aim of this study was to assess the knowledge of clinical medical students of Bingham University Teaching hospital on Neonatal Jaundice (NNJ).Methods: This was a cross-sectional study carried on clinical medical students of Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos. Ethical approval was obtained from the Ethical committee of the Hospital. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to obtain data from 400-600L students using convenience sampling method for all those that consented to the study.Results: A total of 181 students were assessed with a M: F ratio of 1:1.2, age ranged of 18-30 years. About 98% of the students got the definition of jaundice correctly. There was no significant correlation between the definition of NNJ with age, sex educational level and tribe of the students. The major source of information was from their lectures and seminars accounting for 80% of sources. The assessment of the knowledge on the cause of NNJ was good with 145(80%) knowing that hematological/hereditary disease is a cause, 4(2.2%) did not know the cause of NNJ. The highest score for danger signs of NNJ was 98(54%) which was high pitch cry. About 60% of the students knew that blue light is the best colour of light for effective phototherapy, while 42(23%) did not know the answer. There was correlation between the intending practice and the educational level of the students p=0.016.Conclusions: The knowledge of some of the causes and the treatment of NNJ among the BHUTH was good and others were poor, therefore, more teachings and exposures need to be done.

Introducción: el idioma es inglés es considerado como el idioma universal. En la carrera de medicina su utilización ha quedado relegada a que solo los estudiantes tengan conocimientos básicos sobre el manejo del inglés. Sin embargo, dominar este idioma resulta fundamental para enfrentar las situaciones de la vida médica diaria a partir de la Medicina Basada en Evidencia. Objetivo: aplicar una intervención educativa para consolidar las habilidades de los estudiantes de medicina en el manejo del idioma inglés. Métodos: se desarrolló una intervención educativa en los estudiantes de sexto a octavo semestre de la carrera de medicina con el objetivo de potenciar las habilidades del manejo del idioma inglés en la resolución de casos clínicos. Se realizaron búsquedas relacionadas con las temáticas médicas en bases de datos obteniendo documentos escritos originalmente en idioma inglés. Posteriormente se realizaba la lectura, la interpretación y el debate de su contenido. Resultados: se elevó considerablemente el manejo del idioma inglés en los estudiantes. Se evidenció una mejoría significativa en cuanto a la comprensión y escritura; siendo algo inferior los avances en la dicción. También se progresó en las habilidades de los estudiantes para hacer búsquedas de artículos científicos en motores y buscadores de repercusión científica internacional. Conclusiones: la intervención aplicada mejoró el nivel de conocimientos de los estudiantes de medicina en relación al uso y manejo del idioma inglés en la resolución de casos clínicos mediante la aplicación de los conceptos de la Medicina Basada en Evidencia(AU)


Introduction: the language is English is considered as the universal language. In the medicine career, its use has been relegated to the fact that only students have basic knowledge about the use of English. However, mastering this language is essential to face the situations of daily medical life based on Evidence Based Medicine. Objective: to apply an educational intervention to consolidate the skills of medical students in the use of the English language. Methods: an educational intervention was developed in the sixth through eighth semesters of the medical career with the aim of enhancing the skills of English language management in the resolution of clinical cases. Searches related to medical topics in databases were obtained by obtaining documents originally written in English. Subsequently, the reading, interpretation and debate of its content was carried out. Results: the handling of the English language in the students was considerably increased. There was a significant improvement in understanding and writing; the advances in diction being somewhat inferior. Students' abilities to search for scientific articles in engines and search engines with an international scientific impact were also improved. Conclusions: the applied intervention improved the level of knowledge of medical students in relation to the use and management of the English language in the resolution of clinical cases through the application of the concepts of Evidence-Based Medicine(AU)

Resumen Objetivo: evaluar los factores psicosociales asociados al estrés en una muestra de profesores de una universidad privada colombiana. Método: Estudio descriptivo correlacional de una muestra intencional de 61 profesores (rango de edad 25 a 63 años; 65,6 % hombres). Se utilizaron el cuestionario de salud del paciente PHQ-9, Cuestionario de Ansiedad generalizada GAD-7, Escala de estrés percibido PSS-14 y un cuestionario sobre factores psicosociales laborales. Adicionalmente se midió la presión arterial. Resultados: El 21,3 % de los profesores presentan niveles significativos de estrés. Hay mayor necesidad de trabajar en casa, interferencia familia-trabajo y trabajo-familia en profesores con estrés, mientras que el control es menor. Cabe anotar que estos profesores también presentan mayor sintomatología emocional. El modelo final mostró que la necesidad de trabajar en casa y la interferencia familia - trabajo explican el 45,6 % de la varianza en el estrés laboral de los profesores.


Abstract Objective: to evaluate the psychosocial factors associated with stress in a sample of professors from a private Colombian university. Method: Correlational descriptive study of an intentional sample of 61 professors (age range 25 to 63 years, 65,6 % men). The patient's health questionnaire PHQ-9, Generalized Anxiety Questionnaire GAD-7, Perceived Stress Scale PSS-14 and a questionnaire of psychosocial work factors were used. In addition, blood pressure measurements were taken. Results: 21,3 % of professors had significant levels of stress. There are more need to work at home, family-work and work-family interference in professors with stress, while control is lower. It should be noted that these teachers also have greater emotional symptoms. The final model showed that the need to work at home and the family - work interference explain 45,6 % of the variance in teachers' work stress.

ABSTRACT

Este trabajo aborda la discapacidad en el contexto universitario, desde la adecuación a las necesidades y características de la persona. Esta mirada busca que quienes presenten necesidades especiales asociadas a la discapacidad, dispongan de los medios, apoyos y recursos suficientes para asegurar la igualdad real y efectiva de oportunidades dentro de la comunidad universitaria. De acuerdo con ese objetivo, con este artículo se pretende generar una reflexión en el docente universitario, sobre las cuestiones de accesibilidad y adaptación -como aspectos básicos- en la atención a su alumnado con discapacidad. Estos aspectos se relacionan con la búsqueda de desarrollo tecnológico, formativo y personal-social, propio de una Universidad abierta a la sociedad, apuntando hacia valores de normalización, integración e inclusión. En una primera parte, se tratan generalidades sobre el desarrollo tecnológico y usuarios con discapacidad, para pasar a una segunda en la que se abordan cuestiones de la accesibilidad y la discapacidad, continuando con su concreción en el currículum universitario del alumnado con discapacidad.


This work addresses disability in the higher education context, in terms of reasonable and achievable adjustments related to the individual's needs and features. This approach aims to ensure assistive technology, support, and resources as means to guarantee real and effective access to equal opportunities for those members that may present special needs, due to their disability situation, within the university community. Therefore, this paper attempts to generate a reflection for university lecturers about accessibility and adaptation, as basic aspects in their duty of supporting disabled students. These aspects are directly related to technological, educational and socio-personal development, present in those higher education institutions open to society and oriented to values such as integration and inclusion. In the first place, some general information is provided about technological development and users with disabilities. In the second place, certain aspects related to accessibility and disability are addressed, and their materialization in the university curriculum of disabled students.

ABSTRACT

Este trabalho tem por objetivo discutir o ensino com pesquisa na formação de professores por ser uma metodologia que possibilita o protagonismo do estudante, no qual ele é o autor e proponente do seu processo de aprendizagem. O material de análise é constituído por textos escritos produzidos pelos estudantes de Pedagogia, matriculados na disciplina Educação de Jovens e Adultos, participantes dessa experiência, composto por depoimentos dos professores e alunos da EJA da rede municipal de ensino, obtidos por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas; registros de observações realizadas em salas de aula de EJA. Analisou-se a constituição e o desenvolvimento dessa prática, dialogando com autores como: Cunha (s.d.); Esteves (2001); Soares (2012, 2013a, 2013b) dentre outros, que, ao se debruçarem sobre a formação na universidade, têm criticado o ensino por meio da aula magistral e apresentado o ensino com pesquisa como uma das possibilidades metodológicas para a formação de um profissional mais crítico e com autonomia, capaz de tomar decisões frente às incertezas do seu campo de atuação. O ensino com pesquisa convoca os professores universitários a enfrentarem os desafios da formação em suas diversas dimensões: social, cultural e pedagógica. Essa última dimensão – a pedagógica – ao pressupor o deslocamento da docência centrada no professor para o protagonismo do estudante, busca a unicidade existente entre teoria e prática e, também, a articulação necessária entre universidade e escola.


This work aims to discuss the teaching with research in teacher education to be a methodology that enables the student role, in which he is the author and proponent of the learning process. The analysis material consists of written texts produced by Pedagogy students enrolled in adult education course, participants of this experience, composed of testimonies of teachers and students of the EJA of municipal schools, obtained through semi-structured interviews ; observations records held in classrooms EJA. We analyzed the constitution and the development of this practice, dialoguing with authors such as: Cunha (s.d.); Esteves (2001); Soares (2012, 2013a, 2013b) among others, which, to pore over the training at the university, have criticized teaching through the master class and presented the teaching with research as one of the methodological possibilities for the formation of a more critical professional and autonomous, able to take decisions facing the uncertainties of their field. The teaching with research calls on academics to face the challenges of education in its various dimensions: social, cultural and educational. This latter dimension - pedagogical - to assume the displacement of teaching centered on the teacher to the student role, search the existing unity between theory and practice and also appropriate relations between university and school.

El material consiste en el análisis de textos escritos producidos por los estudiantes de Pedagogía matriculados en el curso de educación de adultos, los participantes de esta experiencia, compuesto por testimonios de profesores y estudiantes de la EJA de las escuelas municipales, obtenidos a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas; registros de las observaciones realizadas en las aulas de educación de adultos. Hemos analizado la constitución y el desarrollo de esta práctica, en diálogo con autores como: Cunha (S. D.); Esteves (2001); Soares (2012, 2013th, 2013b), entre otros, los cuales, a lo largo de los poros de la formación en la universidad, han criticado la enseñanza a través de la clase magistral y presentó la enseñanza con la investigación como una de las posibilidades metodológicas para la formación de un profesional más crítica y autónomo, capaz de tomar decisiones frente a la incertidumbre de su campo. La enseñanza con la investigación hace un llamamiento a los académicos para hacer frente a los retos de la educación en sus diversas dimensiones: sociales, culturales y educativas. Esta última dimensión - pedagógica - asuma el desplazamiento de la enseñanza centrada en el profesor al papel del estudiante, buscar la unidad que existe entre la teoría y la práctica y las relaciones también apropiados entre la universidad y la escuela.

Históricamente, la universidad ha sido el ámbito por excelencia de producción de conocimientos y de formación de investigadores. En el marco de la hipermodernidad, y en una reflexión en el ámbito de la teoría de la enseñanza, nos preguntamos qué lugar ocupa el texto académico en la formación de grado, en la Universidad de la República. Para indagar esto, tomamos 23 carreras, de siete servicios, que conforman un campo de conocimientos que denominamos “área de las humanidades, y de las ciencias humanas y sociales”. En este texto se presenta parte del material recogido en las entrevistas a docentes, para la tesis de maestría El texto académico en la formación de grado. Una indagación en el área de las humanidades y las ciencias humanas y sociales de la Universidad de la República (Blezio, 2015), para intentar formular qué entienden ellos por texto académico y cómo lo abordan/enseñan en sus cursos de grado.


Historically, the university has been the institution in charge of the production of knowledge and the training of researchers par excellence. It is within the framework on hypermodernity, and in relation to a theory of teaching, that the question about the place of academic writing at degree level at Universidad de la República arises, in times of a hypermodernity. In order to enquire into this matter, we analyse 23 degree courses, in seven university services in the field of what we name as “the area of the humanities and the human and social sciences”. This article presents part of the data gathered in interviews to university lecturers for my Master´s thesis El texto académico en la formación de grado. Una indagación en el área de las humanidades y las ciencias humanas y sociales de la Universidad de la República (Blezio, 2015). The interviews aimed at describing what they understand by academic text and how they approach/teach it in their degree courses.

El proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje en Medicina Familiar y Comunitaria es analizado desde la perspectiva de las etapas del ciclo profesional: la formación de grado universitario, la especialización en el posgrado y por ultimo la educación permanente en servicio. Para cada una de estas etapas se analizan las dimensiones de los contenidos y compentencias clínicas que se deben desarrollar, los escenarios del proceso enseñanza aprendizaje y las competencias de los docentes para cada una de las mismas. Este análisis permite orientar al fortalecimiento global de los especialistas en medicina familiar y comunitaria con una practica clínica de alta calidad, centrada en la persona, orientada en la familia y basada en la comunidad.


The teaching-learning process in Family and Community Medicine is analyzed from the perspective of the professional cycle stages: the formation of university degree, specialization in graduate school and finally the permanent education service. For each of these stages the dimensions of the content and clinical abilities to be developed, the stage of the teaching-learning process and skills of teachers for each of them are analyzed. This analysis allows to guide the overall strengthening of specialists in family and community medicine with clinical practice of high quality, person-centered, family-oriented and community-based.


O processo de ensino-aprendizagem em Medicina de Família e Comunidade é analisado a partir da perspectiva das fases do ciclo profissional: a formação de graduação, especialização em pós-graduação e, finalmente, a educação permanente em serviço. Para cada uma destas etapas se analisam as dimensões do conteúdo e competências clínicas a serem desenvolvidas, os cenários do processo ensino-aprendizagem e as competências dos professores para cada um das mesmas. Esta análise permite orientar o fortalecimento global dos especialistas em medicina de família e comunidade com uma prática clínica de alta qualidade, centrada na pessoa, orientada na família e baseada na comunidade.
